Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
When you have satisfied all the requirements to enter a full-time course, your education institution will send you a document called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). It contains all the information you need, such as: the study fees, course title, degree level, etc. You can't apply for a Student visa without a CAS.
Money for tuition and expenses
You (or your parents) need to have enough money to pay for your course for a single academic year (up to 9 months). The amount required for payment will be displayed on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
How much money you need for expenses will depend on where you will be studying. You’ll need either:
- £1,334 per month (for up to 9 months) if you’re staying in London
- £1,023 per month (for up to 9 months) if you’re staying outside London
- room & board fees for the first academic year, if you’re going to live at a residential independent school
In some cases, you will not need to prove you have enough money for expenses, but you might be asked to provide this evidence before you obtain a decision on your application anyway.
Knowledge of English
You don't need to prove knowledge of the English language if you are applying for a Child Student visa.
When you apply for a UK Student visa, however, you must provide proof that you can read, write, speak, and understand English. This usually means passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider. You must have attained the equivalent of CEFR level B1 if you're to be studying in an undergraduate program and CEFR level B2 if you’re to be studying in a graduate or higher level degree program. Your Higher Educational Institution can assess your English level themselves, so they may ask you to take a different test.
You do not need to prove your knowledge of English if you’ve completed a program equivalent to a UK degree in certain countries, or proven your English level in a previous visa application.
