Essential Spouse Visa Requirements

A UK Spouse Visa is issued for a period of 2 years and 9 months and includes the right to work. It can be extended once in the UK as a step in obtaining an ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) and/or UK citizenship. UK immigration rules have four primary requirements in place for accepting the family of an applicant:

Proof of income

The income of your UK spouse must be over £29.000 per year before tax.

Proof of accommodation

Your UK spouse must own or rent adequate housing. They must provide for you and any other family members joining you according to the standards set out by the UK Home Office.

Relationship history

You and your partner must show that you have been in a relationship for at least one year.

English language requirements

You must demonstrate knowledge of the English language either by having a degree, academic qualifications acquired in English-language courses, completed research in English, or having passed an English language test.
